In The Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, Amy Chua drums the superiority of “Chinese” parenting, i.e., a focus on discipline over happiness. In countless examples, she shows herself as harsh, competitive, unyielding - and yet successful. The formula works! But her descriptions of her own rigidity do not hold given the warmth of her relationship with her daughters, her husband, the beautiful Samoyeds, Coco and Pushkin.
